Randy F. Fela
Perceptual Audio-visual Evaluation Engineer
I design and run listening and viewing studies that show whether audio and video devices are good enough for real users, and I build the metrics and tools that make that evaluation repeatable.
- Cut test trial count by up to 55% while preserving statistical power using experimental design
- Founded a global assessor panel following ISO 8586
- First-author papers in the Journal of the Audio Engineering Society and IEEE venues on 360 audiovisual quality

About me
I spend my days asking: "How do devices and algorithms really sound and look to humans?" Then I build systems to answer that question at scale.
My work sits at the intersection of audio-visual quality evaluation, bridging AI metrics with human perception, and turning subjective ratings into actionable insights. I also supervise Master's students at Danish universities (DTU, Aalborg), and I'm open to collaborating with students from universities abroad.
I hold a PhD in Perceptual Evaluation of Immersive Audio-visual Technology from the Technical University of Denmark, because someone has to quantify "good enough". Away from work I explore coffee flavour with manual brewing, and I have survived the Danish winter several times.
Outside work
Separately, I run an independent side activity, MentoringBangRandy, that helps Indonesian students prepare scholarship and graduate applications.
MentoringBangRandy is an independent personal side activity. It is not part of, endorsed by, or connected to my employer or any other organization I work with.
